Kanavapuisto Accessible Nature Trail, the Millions of Years Sculpture Exhibition, Arboretum and Rock Garden
The arboretum and rock garden in Kanavapuisto showcase Finland’s beautiful tree species and the region’s distinctive rock types in a landscaped park setting. Along the nature trail, visitors can explore Millions of Years, an art installation by sculptor Ville Heimala consisting of five sculptures that illustrate the natural evolution of the area from the formation of the Lappajärvi impact crater to the present day. Informative panels complement the artwork and provide additional insight into the region’s geological history.
The accessible trail offers a unique combination of nature, art and science experiences for all visitors, including wheelchair users. Thanks to a 1.2-kilometre wooden boardwalk route, everyone can enjoy the surrounding landscape and attractions with ease.
Along the trail, there are 14 information boards about tree species and 8 information boards about rocks and geology. At the end of the route, visitors will find a cosy wilderness shelter, an ideal place to relax and enjoy the scenic riverside setting of the Välijoki River.
