Lakeuden Ursa Observatory

Lakeuden Ursa offers memorable astronomy experiences and guided stargazing events for visitors of all ages in the Seinäjoki region. At the observatory, guests can explore the night sky, telescopes and fascinating space phenomena with expert guidance.

Lakeuden Ursa organizes stargazing events between September and March, and solar observation events during other seasons. The events provide an interesting and accessible experience for families, school groups, associations and travelers alike.

During the visit, guests will learn about the activities of Lakeuden Ursa and the observatory itself, as well as different observation equipment and telescopes. The program also includes presentations of sky cameras, northern lights, meteor and fireball observations, and weather satellite data reception. Visitors will also get acquainted with the Stellarium star map software, which can be used on both computers and mobile devices. The experience culminates in an immersive “journey through space” using Stellarium to explore the night sky and celestial objects.

The visit also includes, weather permitting, an observation session on the observatory viewing platform. Under clear skies, visitors can observe celestial objects through telescopes with guided explanations. Depending on the season and conditions, visible objects may include the Moon, planets, star clusters and other astronomical targets.
