The Tuomaanmäki bronze age cairn cemetery
The Tuomaanmäki Bronze Age cairn cemetery is located about 7 kilometers south-southwest of the center of Isokyrö, south of Tervaneva. It is situated on a forested and rocky hill area, where six cairns are spread over a distance of about 200 meters along its northwestern edge. The cairns measure 5–10 meters in diameter, and the remains of a stone cist structure are still visible in one of them. Over time, the cairns have been excavated and stones have been removed. From one cairn, all the stones have apparently been taken, leaving behind only a circular ring of edge stones. Locally, this ring has been referred to as “käräjäkivet” (court stones) or a “judge’s circle,” which is where the area’s former name, Tuomarmäki (Judge’s Hill), originates.
The cairns can be reached via the Tuomaanmäki hiking trail, which begins at Ventäläntie 670, and parking is strictly permitted in the designated parking area only. The trail is an approximately 4-kilometer-long loop route that features diverse nature. There is a lean-to shelter (laavu) along the hiking trail, which can also be accessed via a forest road.
