Isokyrö soldier museum
The museum of armed man in Isokyrö displays artifacts and stories from all of Finland’s wars. A unique feature of the museum is its artillery park, which showcases nine different cannons. The museum is open by appointment. Admission: €2, groups €6 (includes a guided tour)
Through historical objects and guided tours, the museum takes visitors on a journey through the Cudgel War, the Hakkapeliittas, the Carolinians, the Finnish War of 1808–1809, World War I, the 1918 Civil War, and World War II from 1939 to 1945. The display cases feature soldiers’ uniforms, helmets, rifles, and other equipment. Visitors can see clothing worn during the Cudgel War, a Swedish allotment system soldier with his wife, an ensign’s uniform from 1918, a lieutenant colonel’s gala uniform, and a Lotta Svärd uniform from World War II.
The crown jewel of the museum grounds is the park, which features nine different modern era cannons. The collection includes an infantry gun from 1936, a field gun from 1938, and other artillery pieces from Russia, Finland, Switzerland, and Sweden. A horse-drawn Russian field gun from 1902 is among the oldest weapons in the park. The cannons are no longer operational, as they have been permanently deactivated for safety.
