Parish Centre
Construction of the Parish Centre began in 1969 and was completed a year later. The Japanese-influenced building features open, bright, and continuous spaces. Its minimalist white style reflects the other buildings in the Aalto Centre, such as the Town Hall and the Library.
The Aalto Centre consists of several buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, all located within a short walking distance of one another. Together, they form a unique architectural ensemble.
Inside the Parish Hall, spacious open areas dominate. Aalto’s fascination with Japanese culture and architecture is evident in the interior’s aesthetic. The building’s simple and clean design, both inside and out, contrasts with the Alajärvi Church behind it, designed by Carl Ludwig Engel. Despite their very different architectural styles, the two buildings share a similar color palette.
